The New Learning Environment
In the new learning environment the traditional lecture gives way to a less conservative approach. The instructivist strategy aiming at the transmission of content is replaced by a social constructivist approach, which is mostly discussion, negotiation of meaning, and sharing of ideas based.
This has mainly been made possible through the latest developments of the read/write web (also known as Web 2.0)
While it is obvious that the web and technology were not necessarily developed with a pedagogical or didactic purpose, it is nevertheless notorious that Learning Technologies offers a wider range of learning possibilities, based on a more decentralized and social-constructivist approach. Thus, the emphasis of the current digital classroom is on active learning, collaboration, communication, problem-solving tasks, contextualized activities, and more up-to-dated, just in time learning opportunities.
